Black and white; it's fail-safe, fool-proof and flawless. It's fitting that this is the first blog of our new season - the basics from which to build a wardrobe.
Black, White or Black & White - in a world that seems increasingly, extraordinarily random, this classic palette can offer simplicity and calm. Can you imagine clearing out your wardrobe apart from these staples? Perhaps you can imagine clearing out your daughter's wardrobe in such a way, to control some of the 'noise' that can be children's clothing. An almost entirely monochrome style of dressing makes perfect sense to me, especially as a working mother. It gives me a basic identity, then when I do decide on a colour or pattern it defines a different occasion or part of my personality. I think it's also educated me in the power of accessories; how carefully selected jewellery, bags, shoes or a scarf can really transform a look.
I hope my daughter takes a leaf from my book. I'd love for her to be a confident dresser and enjoy more time contemplating the things that really matter in life. I'll start right here with this classic collection from Alex & Ant (we start 'em young!)
